Wave Shelter at Tarramurra Memorial Park
The shelter is designed as a rest area for the parents, children and visitors who come to the playground at Tarramurra Park. The idea of this shelter is a dynamic envelope, a form of waving hands that offer a friendly, protective and comfortable area for resting and playing.
The idea of the alternative angle of timber framing is to make an interactive space between inside and outside of the area in order to provide an open view to the park, playground and tennis courts. The function of horizontal wood membrane system at the back of the shelter is to provide a support for people sitting in the shelter against falling backward, as well as to provide the ventilation.
The main material used for this structure is treated pine timber. The choice of material is based on the consideration of environment and the cost effectiveness. Due to simple shape of timber frame, the fabrication of the whole system can be carried out easily. Treated pine timber is durable and environmental friendly because timber can be reused and recycled. The timber frame may make visitors feel relaxed and close to the nature if compared to steel and concrete structure. The form of furniture is designed to match the shape of the shelter, and also made of pine timber.
